PAY back the cash you stole and carry out community service.

That’s the sentence for a man who admited benefit fraud totalling more than £8,000.

Gary Bulloch (24) of Sunnyhill, in Twechar, was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court on May 17.

He had previously pled guilty to fraudulently claiming £8,448 in housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support over a two year period.

Bulloch was sentenced to 160 hours community service and will have to pay back the cash.

It was the conclusion of an investigation by East Dunbartonshire Council’s fraud team who discovered he had failed to report that his fiancee was living with him.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “I am encouraged by the attitude of local people who have been calling our confidential number to report their suspicions about people in their community who are falsely claiming benefits.

“We follow up all calls and will do everything we can to secure a prosecution.”
