Future looking bright for former Milton of Campsie printworks

Developers have officially lodged initial plans to turn a village eyesore into a plush new housing development.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning department recently received a ‘proposal of application notice’ from Springfield Properties for the former Lillyburn Works site, in Milton of Campsie.

The site, which has long been a safety concern for residents, has lain unused for several years after the company that owned it went into liquidation.

In 2006 a major fire ripped through some of the buildings, while others were in an unstable condition.

But in recent months new owners Springburn Properties have demolished a series of buildings - a welcome move which has attracted praise from local councillors, community councillors and residents.

An application has now been lodged with the council, notifying of the company’s intention to build a “residential development and access road”.

Crawford McGhie, the council’s enterprise manager, confirmed that the application had been received.

He added: “A public meeting was held by the developer in Milton of Campsie on June 26.

“Council officers are currently in discussions with the developers around this application.”
