Girls only night raises vital funds for cancer services

A ‘Girls Only’ night has raised almost £2,000 for cancer care services.

tHe successful event was organised by Lenzie woman Margo Reid. Margo had major surgery in August last year to remove a uterine/endometrial cancer and she wanted to thank the hospital ward and staff for all their help and support.

So she decided to hold a ‘Girls Only’ event in Lenzie Rugby Club to raise funds for the Glasgow Royal Infirmary oncology ward where she was treated and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Margo said: “What a night! We sold approximately 120 tickets and around 110 ladies turned out on the night in support of the cause.

“The evening was a great success.”

In total of £1,791 was raised at the event through ticket sales, a raffle, a silent auction and a competition to guess the teddy bear’s birthday.

Local businesses and residents donated prizes and party supplies, while staff from ASDA Robroyston helped out on the night free of charge.

Margo hopes to break the £2,000 barrier when money comes in for handmade jewellery sales and photos taken during the evening.

She added: “I am overwhelmed at the generosity of everyone and cannot thank them enough.
