Going walkies for Guide Dogs

Blind and partially sighted people are getting set to ‘Go Walkies’ with their guide dogs.

A fundraising group for the Guide Dogs charity was recently set up for the Kirkintilloch and surrounding area.

And the first event ‘Go Walkies’ will take place on Sunday, August 11, at Woodhead Park in Kirkintilloch.

Margaret Hutchison is a member of the group and has been fundraising for the charity for several years. The 60-year-old inherited the eye condition, glaucoma and now only has a tiny bit of sight in her right eye.

Margaret, from Kirkintilloch, has her trusty guide dog Jack. She said: “Getting a guide dog is the greatest thing I have ever done. The difference between having a dog and not is tremendous. The freedom, independence, mobility and company they give you is great.”

‘Go Walkies’ will leave from Woodhead Park for a 30 minute walk on Sunday at 2pm. Anyone can take part. You can make donations on the day. For more information about the group, contact Margaret on 0141 578 4013.
