NEW traffic lights will finally be switched on at a notorious accident blackspot this week.

Local residents and community leaders have campaigned for traffic lights at the junction of Milton Road and Benvue Road, near Rowantree Place in Lennoxtown, for years.

The Herald has reported that the traffic lights were set to be in operation by the end of January but they were not...around two months after they were installed.

Scottish Power said they had completed the work they had to do on Tuesday, February 28.

East Dunbartonshire Council confirmed that they had planned to switch the lights on as we went to press on Monday, March 4.

David Devine, heads of roads and neighbourhood services at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “We were informed on Friday, March 2 that Scottish Power had repaired the fault earlier this week and as such we have arranged a switch on by our technical specialists.

“The traffic lights should be working by Monday, March 5 at the latest.”

Councillor John Dempsey has been calling for action. He is pictured.
