The Leisuredrome in Bishopbriggs proved it is in great shape after picking up a prestigious prize at the Scottish Fitness Awards.

The GYM@The Leisuredrome was shortlisted for the coveted Local Authority/Trust Gym of the Year award by a panel of judges.

The facility was recently crowned the winner after coming top in an online public vote - with contented customers clicking in their hundreds.

The announcement was made at the Scottish Fitness Awards ceremony at Glasgow’s SECC, which took place during the Sport, Fitness and Nutrition Expo on Sunday, August 31.

The Bishopbriggs gym beat off 12 other fitness centres across the country to land the award - including local competition and fellow nominees, West Dunbartonshire’s Meadow Centre.

East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust (EDLCT) chairman Scott Hill was full of praise for his staff.

He told the Herald: “Congratulations to everyone at the Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome for such a fantastic achievement.

“This national award is extra special as it was voted for by the public and it’s a real pat on the back for all the hard work being carried out by the team in Bishopbriggs.”

The award recognised the quality of the GYM@TheLeisuredrome - which has the very latest Technogym and Functional Training equipment, as well as a team of professional and helpful staff.

Councillor Alan Moir, East Dunbartonshire Council’s convener of development and regeneration added: “The council is delighted to see our partners in the leisure trust recognised by its own customers for the excellent facility and services that are provided in Bishopbriggs.

“The Leisuredrome has a three star ‘excellent leisure centre’ rating from Visit Scotland, has an official ‘baby friendly’ pool certificate and is an accredited Institute of Qualified Lifeguards Approved Centre of Excellence.

“To add this national award to the growing collection is a feather in the cap for everyone at the centre.”

Debbie Rossiter, operations manager at the Leisuredrome, said: “It’s a fantastic honour to receive this award. Congratulations to the GYM team and a I’d like to say a big thank you to our customers for their on-going support.”
