Firefighters came together with members of the public for an emergency call of a different kind - to raise a fantastic £5719 for charity.

The team took part in the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival 999 Charity Cycle, from Kirkintilloch to the Falkirk Wheel and back again.

Over 60 cyclists rose to the challenge which they all really enjoyed, especially the breakfast and refreshment which was provided free of charge by the Stables Restaurant in Kirkintilloch.

The bumper cash raised will be split between MacMillan Cancer Support and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service Family Support Trust.

This event formed part of the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival week.

Top fundraiser was George McClymont, from Bishopbriggs, who raised a massive £540. He said: “I really enjoyed being involved in the 999 charity cycle, this is my first time doing it, and it won’t be my last.

“I will certainly be back again next year, we were all well looked after.”
