High pollution levels hit village

Unacceptable levels of air pollution have been discovered in a North Lanarkshire village.

It is thought traffic congestion in Moodiesburn is one of the main causes of the high levels and it’s hoped the opening of the new Moodiesburn bypass will help tackle the problem.

North Lanarkshire Council now plans to create an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) to monitor the problem and it is currently carrying out a consultation into the proposal.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Establishing an AQMA is a good start to this process.”
