FIREFIGHTERS past and present have been invited to a special event to mark the final days of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.

On April 1 the eight existing Scottish fire authorities will merge to become a single organisation - The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

To commemorate the event Kirkintilloch Fire Station will host an open night on Thursday, February 21, for all those who have worked at the station during its 58-year history.

A spokesperson explained: “This is an open invitation to anyone who has served at Kirkintilloch Fire Station to help us commemorate and celebrate the passing of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and look towards the new Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Come down, have a look round and see the changes in and around the station.

“There will be a buffet, so get a bite to eat, have a drink and a blether with your colleagues retired and still serving.

“Dig out your old photos and bring them along as well.”

If you’d like to attend give Kirkintilloch Fire Station a call on 0141 776 6263.
