ROADWORKS mean a street in Kirkintilloch is being closed until OCTOBER as part of an ongoing housing development.

Calfmuir Road is being shut between the south-west kerbline of Market Road and the centre of the railway bridge over the Glasgow-Edinburgh line.

East Dunbartonshire’s head of roads and neighbourhood services, David Devine, confirmed: “As part of the ongoing Woodilee Housing Development, road construction works will be carried out by the contractor to upgrade a section of Calfmuir Road, Kirkintilloch.

“These works will also include utility diversions and muck-shifting operations and are due to be completed on Sunday, October 13, 2013.

“Diversion routes will be Tweeted and signposted throughout this period.”

Meanwhile, work took place last week to replace warning directional signs on the B819 Lindsaybeg Road at the A806 Initiative Road.

In addition, works are ongoing to upgrade gas mains in Waterside Road, Kirkintilloch, as part of a £176,000 project. There will be temporary traffic lights on the road until the end of March. That has sparked fears that people could use nearby streets as shortcuts.

David Devine, head of roads and neighbourhood service at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “While roadworks are in place, drivers often look for alternative routes on the public highway.”
