A major skateboading and rollerblade contest will take place in Kirkintilloch later this month

The event is being staged by Kirkintilloch Skatepark Initiative (KSI) as part of the celebrations marking the town’s 800th anniversary of becoming a barony burgh.

It will feature a host of rollerblading and skateboarding competitions and is expected to draw enthusiasts from all over Scotland.

The contests will be held on August 27 (rollerblades) and 28 (skateboards), when a total of £800 worth of prize money will be up for grabs.

Susan Murray, project co-ordinator for KSI, said: “We are really looking forward to it. It’s always great to see people showing off their skills at whatever level.”

The contests, which will be judged by pro-skaters, will be divided into three categories (under-14), (15 to 17 years) and (18 and over).
