The latest phase of a town centre regeneration programme promises to transform a town centre street.

Work to improve pavements, junctions, pedestrian crossings and parking for shoppers and residents using Townhead, in Kirkintilloch, is expected to get underway next week.

Contractors will be moving on site on Monday, August 26, with the work scheduled to take around 12 weeks to complete.

The extensive project will cost £140,000 and is part of the wider Kirkintilloch Town Centre Masterplan.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie explained that the works will address some of the points that were raised during the extensive community consultation which took places right at the beginning of the masterplan process.

She said: “When asked for their views on this part of the town centre, people told us that they would like to see the quality of pavements and crossing points at junctions improved and they would like more parking.

“Building on that feedback, we spoke to traders and came up with this project which is starting soon.

“Anyone using the town centre will be aware of different pieces of work going on – all as part of the Town Centre Masterplan.

“Things are happening and people should start noticing improvements.”
