A COURAGEOUS pensioner challenged a burglar when he broke into her house while she was sleeping.

The woman and her partner – aged 75 and 77 – were asleep in their home in Balgraybank Street, Springburn when they were disturbed by a noise around 8.30pm on Friday, February 10.

They realised a man was in their bedroom – and when the woman confronted him, he ran out taking her handbag with him.

Detective Constable Jonathan Rowell said: “It may be that someone in the area will have seen the suspect either prior to or following the housebreaking and can provide further details to us.

“The elderly couple were extremely distressed by what happened and I would appeal to anyone who may have any knowledge or information either about the crime or the suspect to please get in touch with us.”

The suspect is described as around 6ft tall with a slim build.

He had short dark hair and he was wearing dark clothing.

Police say enquiries are been conducted in the area.
