Lenzie honoured with a second Fairtrade award

Lenzie has renewed its status as a Fairtrade Town following great efforts from community groups.

Lenzie was originally awarded the title in April 2013, but it has now been extended to July 2016.

It follows news that East Dunbartonshire was designated a Fairtrade Zone for the third time.

A spokesperson from the Lenzie Fairtrade Group said: “When Lenzie achieved Fairtrade Town status in April 2013 the group immediately started to look ahead at what needed to be done to ensure continuity of this much-prized status.

“A huge amount of work goes into this type of renewal and we want to thank everyone for their support - particularly Lenzie Community Council, local residents, churches, groups, schools and East Dunbartonshire Council.”

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development and regeneration at the council, added: “Well done to everyone at Lenzie Fairtrade Group for their inspirational work — which has not only secured Lenzie Fairtrade Town status, but helped to ensure East Dunbartonshire remained a Fairtrade Zone. The council is committed to the ethos and values of fair trade, and was delighted to see East Dunbartonshire awarded Fairtrade Zone status for the third time.” More on page30
