A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy was one of the youngest competitors in Sunday’s 5K Race for Life.

Bailey Rice and his mum, Donna, joined hundreds of runners for the Cancer Research UK event at Glasgow Green.

The Gartcosh youngster has so far raised over £500 for the charity through sponsorship.

Bailey’s gran, Ann Innes, was diagnosed with breast cancer in August last year.

Her diagnosis was made at the same time her daughter, Donna, was about to be induced to give birth to her son, Harris, who is now 10- months-old.

It was while Donna was in hospital that Ann (53) decided to go for a mammogram.

She has since had a lumpectomy, as well as radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, and is now on the road to recovery.

Donna said: “When I told Bailey I was doing the 5K he decided he wanted to do it too. It is his way of showing how much he cares for his gran.”
