£14k facelift for former mining village in East Dunbartonshire

COUNCIL chiefs are digging deep to help an ex-mining village to flourish again.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s Civic Pride Initiative has stumped up £14,000 to improve a seated area in Twechar.

The site, at the junction of Main Street and MacDonald Crescent, is one of nine projects being completed in a bid to get residents to take more pride in their local area.

The £13,633 investment paid for resurfacing works and painting lampposts and utility boxes, as well as new flower beds, trees, benches and fencing.

Councillor Alan Moir, the council’s convener of development and enterprise, said: “Twechar has really been transformed with these improvements.

“Residents are really pleased with the transformation as the village is far more visually appealing.”

The council’s resource generation officer, Gordon Strain, is pictured with Councillor Moir at the new seating area in Twechar.
