£14k in rent? We’ll have to forget about it...

PEOPLE who owe the council more than £14,000 in unpaid rent are off the hook, reluctant council chiefs have admitted.

More than £14,000 in unpaid rent has been written off by East Dunbartonshire Council.

All of the debt has been outstanding for more than five years - meaning it is now considered “unrecoverable”.

Top of the league table of unpaid debt was Bishopbriggs, with two separate unpaid rents of £3,700.40 and £3,015.39 from the overall total of £14,519.13.

Debts of £3,077.32 in Kirkintilloch and £2,061.02 in Twechar were also written off last week by the council’s policy and resources committee.
