£20 charge for special uplifts

A charge for special uplifts will be introduced in East Dunbartonshire from April.

The £20 charge is being brought in for collections of items such as excess bags of rubbish, furniture, carpets, white goods, toys or gardening equipment.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “The council was faced with some difficult decisions when it finalised its budget in February.

“One of the decisions taken was to introduce charges for special uplifts and every effort was made to keep this as low as possible at £20.

“While the charge comes in on April 1, residents need to call and book their uplift before midnight on Sunday, March 23, if they wish to benefit from the free service. The reason for this is that any call taken after that will result in an April collection.”

Residents can take waste to the Mavis Valley Recycling Centre free of charge.

To arrange a special uplift, call the council’s contact centre on 0300 123 4515.
