East Dunbartonshire has marked Adult Learners Week with a special celebration of all those dedicated to lifelong learning.
The event took place at Kirkintilloch’s William Patrick Library last week and council leader Rhondda Geekie was on hand to congratulate the participants.
She said: “It’s so encouraging to see so many adult learners here and I would like to congratulate them on their achievements. They should all be proud of how far they have come and this event is a great way of acknowledging the achievements of those who have taken part in our adult learning programmes.
“Our thanks must also go to all our volunteer tutors who were also given certificates at the event.”
This year’s literacy learners also took part in a six book reading challenge, supported by library staff, and contributed stories and poems they had written to a book, ‘Moving On’, which was launched on the night.
Councillor Geekie continued: “It was lovely to hear the readings from ‘Moving On’, the book that the literacy group has produced. This celebration and the range of achievements demonstrated here should remind us all that it is never too late to learn.
