Anti-social behaviour drops in schools

PUPILS are happy to toe the line in East Dunbartonshire - that's the message from new figures on school exclusions.

The number of pupils excluded from schools in East Dunbartonshire has dropped by nearly 10 per cent.

Recently released Government figures show that 698 pupils were excluded in 2007/08, compared with 767 a year earlier.

A council spokesperson said: "Schools in East Dunbartonshire will always attempt to avoid the exclusion of pupils from education and seek alternative strategies."

West of Scotland MSP Stuart McMillan welcomed the figures.

He said: "It's important that learning is exciting, relevant and engaging for young people.

"I believe the recent drop in exclusions in East Dunbartonshire demonstrates the vast majority of pupils are willing to engage and learn."
