Anti-social dog owners slammed after child slips in dog mess
AN angry mum has hit out at selfish dog owners after her daughter was left covered in poo.
The woman says she is appalled by the amount of dog mess in the Waterside area of Kirkintilloch and that it’s getting worse.
She was taking her children to school when her daughter slipped and fell on dog’s dirt.
The angry mum told the Herald: “The path outside my house is the main path used by dog walkers and it’s covered with dog mess.
“I was taking my children to school when my daughter fell onto dog mess, getting her uniform and hand covered in it.
“It made my daughter very upset and late for school.
“The path we take to get to my children’s school, which is St Agatha’s Primary, is also littered with dog mess despite the fact that there is a bin at the bottom of the hill.”
She added: “I would like to see a dog warden in the area giving out fines to those who don’t pick up after their pets.
“Waterside is a lovely area and I feel that the dog mess is dragging it down.”
Visitors to the Herald’s Facebook page have also raised concerns about dog mess.
Margaret Ramsay said: “Hillhead is very bad for it. I walk my son to school from Highfield Avenue round the corner to Hillhead Primary and it’s dodge the dog mess.”
Agnes Loney said: “Walked down Kirky main street today and couldn’t believe the amount of dog mess, it’s ridiculous.”
Kenny Simpson, East Dunbartonshire Council’s head of housing and community services, said: “As part of our ongoing campaign to deal with this problem, the council will also be taking part in Operation Myriad, an initiative championed by Strathclyde Police that will see our four council environmental wardens patrolling streets during October.”
He added: “We are now aware of the situation in the Waterside and Hillhead areas, as well as Kirkintilloch main street, and these will be looked into as a priority.”
