A young man has taken his first step towards a career in the railway after being selected for ScotRail’s Modern Apprenticeship scheme.
Robert Yule (21) beat applicants from across the country and is among 15 young people from across Scotland who recently started the Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service.
The programme is a UK rail industry first.
Robert, a former Bishopbriggs Academy pupil, said: “I’ve been working for a few years as a team leader in a supermarket, but decided to leave to join this programme because it’s a great opportunity for me to grow as a person and hopefully kick-start a career in the railway.
“My granddad worked in the railway as a stoker and then a driver many years ago, so I like that connection and ultimately want to be a driver too.
“The apprenticeship is a great way to learn about the railway.”
