Axe hanging over petrol station in Kirkintilloch

A BUYER is being sought for an under-threat petrol station.

Calanike Retailing Limited employees 10 people at the Esso filling station on Waterside Road, in Kirkintilloch.

It also owns the Crowwood Filling Station, in Chryston’s Cumbernauld Road, which is currently closed.

The company, which has its headquarters in Kirkintilloch, operates 19 petrol stations across central Scotland and northern England, employing around 170 staff. It trades under Esso, BP and other independent brands.

The receivers - Zolfo Cooper - said the company was facing an unsustainable financial position in a particularly challenging industry sector.

They will continue to trade while exploring all possible options for the future, including a sale.

Elizabeth Mackay, at Zolfo Cooper, said: “Calanike Retailing has established a significant footprint across the central belt of Scotland and northern England as a leading independent fuel retailer.

“We are confident we will receive significant interest from third parties for the business. To that end, we would welcome enquiries from potential buyers.

“In the interim, we will continue to trade the business as normal. We would like to thank all staff for their ongoing dedication and professionalism during this process.”
