Baby, it’s a real boost – leisure centres bring in baby food facilities

NEW food warming facilities for babies have been introduced at leisure centres and a library in East Dunbartonshire this week.

The move follows a complaint from a mum who claims she was refused hot water to heat up her daughter’s food at The Leisuredrome, in Bishopbriggs.

The staff told her it was down to health and safety reasons.

Facilities were put in place at the Leisuredrome, Kirkintilloch and Allander leisure centres, as well as William

Patrick Library, in Kirkintilloch.

Mark Grant, general manager of East Dunbartonshire Council Leisure and Culture Trust, said: “It was unfortunate that our catering contractors weren’t able to provide the hot water and we apologise for the inconvenience, but they felt it was unsafe to provide hot water that had not been heated to the correct temperature.

“We are committed to being baby friendly leisure centres and on the back of this incident it has been agreed with our contractor that baby food warming facilities will be installed to ensure our customers visiting the centres can do so in the peace of mind that they can heat babies’ food.”
