Best-ever gala day in the offing thanks to firm foundation
EXCITEMENT is building for a popular community event – thanks to kind housebuilders.
Lenzie Community Council is already starting work on the “best-ever” Lenzie Gala and has announced it is once again receiving financial sponsorship to the tune of £1,000 from the Woodilee Village housebuilders consortium.
This year’s Lenzie Gala will be held on Saturday, June 1 – in the grounds of Lenzie Rugby Club as usual.
The 2012 Jubilee Gala saw an increase in the number of stallholders – charities aiming to raise cash for their activities and small local businesses.
However, a spokesperson for the community council said: “A number of people were on holiday over the Jubilee weekend so we hope even more will come along this year.
“All four housebuilders have made considerable progress on the Woodilee Estate during the past year and the population of Lenzie has grown.
“We hope that the inhabitants – whether new to Lenzie or just relocating – will come along and join us at the Gala in 2013.”
There will be more information this spring, but you can also check www.lenziecommunitycouncil.org.uk.
The Lenzie Gala is seen as the centrepiece community event of the calendar year – giving locals the opportunity to discover things going on in their area which they may not otherwise know anything about.
A number of charities seize the chance to spread the word and also recruit new volunteers.
Quality of entertainment is also a priority. Previous highlights have included the lady drummers in 2012 and the Drakes of Hazzard in 2011!
The spokesperson added: “This year we want to try and locate those talented individuals in our own community who are just waiting for the opportunity to take centre stage.
“If there are any likely candidates reading this, please contact us via the website as before.”
Welcoming the sponsorship news, Liz Ibbotson – vice-chairperson of Lenzie Community Council and gala convener – said: “On behalf of the community council I would like to thank the Woodilee housebuilders consortium for their generous sponsorship of our gala in 2013.
“The ‘Woodilee Villagers’ are becoming an integral part of our community and we are delighted to see them participate in this afternoon of family fun for people of all ages.
“This is an event when the whole community, including the new residents of Woodilee Village, can get together and these funds will help make the day more special for all those who come along.”
Project director Doug Riddell added: “The housebuilders at Woodilee Village are delighted to support Lenzie Gala, a highlight in the local summer calendar.
“As new homeowners take up residence in this fabulous woodland location, we are sure many families will enjoy getting involved in this established local community event.
“The interest in new homes for sale at Woodilee Village continues and the housebuilding consortium is pleased to have an involvement in Lenzie’s Gala.”
