Big demand for Lenzie school

PUPILS are queuing up to become part of a popular school in East Dunbartonshire.

More than 100 placing request were submitted for Lenzie Academy in the run-up to the new term.

It was ranked 13th in the league table for the best performing Scottish schools last year.

The Herald can reveal the school received a massive 109 placing requests for pupils from outwith its feeder primary schools catchment area.

And 56 of the applications came from outwith East Dunbartonshire.

For the 2009/10 school session, East Dunbartonshire Council received a total of 694 placing requests from parents of pupils resident both within and outwith the district.

The education authority granted 660 requests.

Some 30 placing request applications for Bishopbriggs Academy were declined, 28 of which were from outwith the district.

All placing requests for Lenzie Academy were successful, as were those for Kirkintilloch High (9), St Ninian's High (9) and Turnbull High (26).

Around 361 placing requests were made for the district's primary schools - all were granted.
