Tributes have been paid to big-hearted Kirkintilloch centenarian Mary Starr who passed away last week after a short illness.
Mary, of The Loanings, forfeited her gifts for her 100th birthday in May to raise cash for charity.
Sadly, the generous local lady passed away just days after handing over a £1000 donation to be jointly split between Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.
Mary’s daughter Marie Daly said: “My mum was an incredible person.
“She just decided she had achieved everything in her life and wanted family and friends to donate to charity rather give her gifts
“More than 100 people turned out to her birthday party at the Kirkintilloch Miners Club and there was a huge turnout at her funeral at St Ninian’s on Wednesday.
“She touched a lot of lives which was clear at the funeral. The entertainer at her party came along to pay his respects and he had only met mum the one time!”
Cancer research shop manager in Kirkintilloch, Ruby McGregor said: “It was a very generous gesture from a lovely lady.
“We were all very sad to hear that Mary had passed away.”
