Big push as mums go on the march for toddler born two months early

A BRAVE youngster who faced a fight for life after being born two months premature has inspired a charity fundraiser set to take place later this month.

Muirhead and District Childminders Group, based at Stepps Cultural Centre, are holding their third annual sponsored buggy push at Drumpellier Country Park on Tuesday, October 23, at 9.30am.

The event will raise cash for Bliss UK - who provide care and support for premature babies and their families - after the group were touched by the story of Stepps baby Caleb Morrison.

Caleb’s mum, Amanda, said: “He was born eight weeks premature and only weighed 1.54kg - he was tiny and in an incubator for 13 days. It was pretty scary and we kept on asking if he was going to be ok.

“We were lucky though and after a month we were able to take him home, which was such a relief.

“Now he’s a healthy and happy baby - he’s been absolutely great.

“In hospital Bliss provide information and pamphlets to parents. The nurses and doctors are brilliant, but it’s good to have all that information to hand.

“When you take your baby home you also get given a pack, supplied by Bliss, about looking after them.”

She added: “My mum is a member of the childminding group and I knew that they did an annual charity event.

“I was wanting to do something for Bliss so I was really happy when they said they’d support the charity with the buggy push.”

Cheryl Dickens, secretary of the group, said: “Caleb is doing great and is thriving now and the family have said the support from Bliss UK at this time was second to none.

“We are asking our clients, friends and family to sponsor us for this event and inviting them to take part for such a great cause.”

Anybody can turn up and take part in the buggy push - no prior notice is required. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from.bliss.org.uk
