The head of Wester Cleddens Primary in Bishopbriggs is to take over at Bearsden Primary - temporarily.
Paul Meehan will take charge on an interim basis in August, following the departure of Marianne Young after 17 years.
The post will be readvertised next term as a permanent replacement is sought.
In a letter to parents, East Dunbartonshire Council education chief Gordon Currie said: “Interviews were held on Thursday, June 5 and the panel unanimously decided not to make an appointment at this time.
“As a result, I have asked Mr Paul Meehan, head teacher at Wester Cleddens Primary School in Bishopbriggs, to become head teacher at Bearsden Primary from August on a temporary basis. This will ensure the leadership of the school when Mrs Young retires.
“During the course of the next session, I will re-advertise the substantive head teacher post and further information will be provided at that time. I have kept the Parent Council fully informed of developments and
“Mr Meehan will accompany me to a meeting of the parent council next Thursday.
“I am sure you will join me in wishing Mr Meehan every success in this temporary appointment.”
It was unclear as we published what the new arrangements for Wester Cleddens will be.
