Bishopbriggs residents in move to cut-out speeding

CONCERNED residents have made a wooden model of a traffic cop . . . in a bid to get drivers to slow down.

Members of Woodhill Residents' Association have constructed a scarecrow-type police officer to stand in Menteith Avenue, Bishopbriggs.

Chairman Donald Macdonald said: "The model has been dressed up to look like a police officer and we hope it is realistic enough to make a difference.

"There are serious concerns about speeding in the street and we wanted to take positive action.

"The police have sent a patrol car to the area in the past, but drivers slow down when they see it and start speeding again when it isn't there.

"We appreciate the police are busy and can't stay in the street all the time, so we decided to do something about the problem ourselves."

Mr Macdonald said residents in the area were concerned someone could be seriously injured or even killed.

"There is a play area on the street and it is inappropriate that some cars are travelling at around 35 or even 40 miles per hour."
