Blaze at new Kirkintilloch High

POLICE are investigating after a fire was started near a new school building.

Fire services were called to Kirkintilloch High School at around 2.45am last Sunday morning, November 16, after vandals set light to paper and pallets in the car park of the new multi-million pound development.

The building is one of six new PPP-funded secondary schools across East Dunbartonshire set to open in 2009.

Kirkintilloch Fire Station sent out two units to dowse the flames and ensure that the fire didn't spread.

Windows were also broken during the attack, which is now subject to a joint investigation by police and fire services.

Police are hunting for a suspect described as being a white male, aged 25-30, around 5ft 2ins tall, of medium build, bald and wearing a green Brazil football top and a dark jacket.

A spokesperson for Kirkintilloch police said: "Anybody who may have seen this man should contact Sergeant Maurice Lindsay at Kirkintilloch Community Police on 0141 532 4480 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
