Budding poets make it a night to remember in Kirkintilloch

IT was rhyme time at Kirkintilloch High as pupils unveiled their own poetry book.

The charity venture was launched at 'A Midsummer Soiree', the result of months of hard work by a group of S3 pupils – led by business education teacher Angela Watts.

The aim is to raise cash for Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

The book they created – 'A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words' – features illustrations by Kirkintilloch artist Willie Rodger and work by Scottish poet and dramatist Liz Lochhead, alongside the pupils' own verse.

The evening included poetry readings, print demonstrations, music recitals and 'bespoke catering' from hospitality pupils.

The exhibition will also be on display at the Auld Kirk Museum later in the year, where copies of the book will be available priced at 6, or two for 10.

The book is also on sale at internet giant www.amazon.co.uk

Head teacher Eddie Muir said: "Kirkintilloch High School's participation in this project has added an exciting and innovative dimension to learning and teaching, and to the quality of pupils' learning experiences.

"It has provided a vehicle for delivering relevant learning experiences through an interdisciplinary approach and we are justifiably proud of our pupils' contributions and of their achievements in producing something of such high quality."
