THE last of the dilapidated three-storey properties have been pulled down in the Hillhead area of Kirkintilloch to make way for new houses.

Last week saw the bulldozers move in on the flats in Ivanhoe Drive.

The area had become a magnet for vandals and firebugs in recent years - with fire crews being called out as many as three times a week at the end of 2010.

As part of the Hillhead Housing Association 2000 programme, work on building around 87 new homes will start later this year. It is the final phase of a plan to spend more than £20million to regenerate the area.

Pictured as the latest demolition work got underway are (from left) clerk of works Craig Douglas, housing officer Betty Borland, office manager Mary White, HHA chief executive Stephen Macintyre, housing officer Liz Bauer and Reigart Contracts manager Peter Reilly.
