Bumper crop of council houses on the way to Kirky and Briggs

MORE than 80 families will be able to move into new homes as part of a multi-million pound housing boost in Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs.

East Dunbartonshire Council has secured £2.9million of funding to help finance the building of rented housing in Mavisbank, Bishopbriggs and Southbank Road, Kirkintilloch.

The plans include 41 new council houses and a further 40 homes in partnership with Trust Housing Association.

All 81 new properties will be let to people on the council’s waiting lists.

Councillor Amanda Stewart, convener of housing and community services, said: “This is really exciting news for East Dunbartonshire. I am absolutely delighted that we have been awarded this funding.

“The council last month completed its first new council housing development for 20 years.

“These new homes will go some way towards meeting the need for more rented housing in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch.”

The £2.9million from the Innovation and Investment Fund will cover around 40 per cent of the cost of the £7million project. A total of 65 properties will be built in Kirkintilloch – 25 by the council and 40 by the housing association – while 16 council homes will be created in Bishopbriggs.
