Call time on drinking den behind homes in Lenzie!

FED-up homeowners say teeny tipplers are using a path and park behind their houses as a drinking den and hang-out.

Now residents in Hazel Avenue, Lenzie, are calling for action.

One concerned local said: “It happens every Friday and Saturday night. It’s been going on for years, but in the last few weeks it’s got worse.

“They’re making a terrible noise and we want something done about it.”

Councillor Gillian Renwick has received several complaints from constituents about the problem . . . and the amount of dog mess and broken glass in the area.

She said: “The young people think they are out of the way up there, but the singing and football is causing distress for residents. It starts on Friday and goes right through to Saturday.

“I’ve been up there and there is also a lot of litter, dog fouling and broken glass. This area needs to be targeted.”

Councillors for Lenzie and Kirkintilloch South recently met with residents, police and members of the council’s cleansing service to walk along the route and assess the problem.

A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of issues that have been raised by residents and we are working in partnership with the council to address them.”

Kenny Simpson, East Dunbartonshire’s head of housing and community services, said the council was alerted to a problem in the area back in January, and action was taken to clear up broken glass, litter and dog mess.

The pathway is on a maintenance programme and litter picked weekly.

Residents are encouraged to contact Kirkintilloch Police Office on 0141 532 4400 regarding incidents of anti-social behaviour.
