Care home to benefit from £2million upgrade

A CARE home is to get a £2million upgrade - just weeks after it was threatened with closure.

Chilterns Care Home, in Muirhead, could have been closed as part of swingeing cutbacks by North Lanarkshire Council.

But the facility was saved from the axe when the council set its budget last month - much to the relief of residents, their families, MP Tom Clarke and local councillors who pledged to fight to keep the facility open.

Now, the council has announced it’s to invest £2million in Chilterns - bringing great news for the home.

It’s part of a £350million capital investment across the area over the next five years.

The council said discussions are at an early stage of what the upgrade to Chilterns will include.

The news has been given a warm welcome.

Strathkelvin councillor Willie Hogg said: “I’m delighted with this investment. We’re looking at all options.

“The threat of closure became personal to me. It’s a very well respected facility.”
