Cash for memorial hall, cemetery and ‘feature wall’ in Lennoxtown

PROJECTS to boost pride in communities around East Dunbartonshire have been given a five-figure boost.

More than £28,000 has been distributed to 17 organisations across the area who applied to the new Civic Pride Community Action Fund.

Among other projects, the grants will help:

* Spruce up Campsie Memorial Hall in Lennoxtown, Caldwell Hall in Torrance and the Park Centre in Kirkintilloch

* Work at Clachan of Campsie cemetery

* Improve land near Cleddens Learning and Childcare and Bishopbriggs Academy

* Create a ‘feature wall’ in Lennoxtown

The initiative was launched last August and offered grants of up to £2,000 to schools and groups planning to carry out civic pride-focused projects, such as litter-picking, tidying up of green spaces or other community initiatives to improve the local environment.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the development and infrastructure committee, was delighted with the response from the community and is looking forward to seeing the results of their hard work.

He said: “When we launched the Civic Pride Community Action Fund I encouraged as many groups as possible to apply and the response has been very positive.

“I’m pleased that we have seen a wide variety of organisations from right across the authority tap into this fund.

“We should be proud of our communities and by working together, the council and local groups can build on what we have and make a difference to the environment.

“These projects will make our towns and villages greener, more attractive places to live in.”
