Cash will be poured into roads and lockers thanks to ‘windfall’

ROAD resurfacing works and new leisure centre lockers are just two of the projects set to be brought forward thanks to an unexpected glut of council cash.

The money became available after a number of current schemes were delayed, while others came in under budget.

At last week’s meeting of East Dunbartonshire Council’s policy and resources committee councillors elected to spend the cash on projects earmarked for future years.

They include £150,000 worth of road resurfacing work and another £150,000 of investment in the Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome to replace lockers and upgrade the gym and fire alarm system.

Projects to upgrade the Mavis Valley Transfer station and Cadder Cemetery, both in Bishopbriggs, will also be carried out sooner than expected.

Councillor leader Rhondda Geekie said: “A total of 12 projects are set to be delivered earlier than planned and this proves that as a council we are committed to making sure capital expenditure is fully maximised.
