Caught trying to break into church building
A THIEF fled empty-handed after being disturbed while smashing his way into a church manse.
St Matthew’s Church, in South Crosshill Road, Bishopbriggs, was targeted at around 2.15pm on Tuesday, January 10.
Parish Priest Monsignor High Bradley investigated when he heard an unusual noise.
He told the Herald: “I heard a thud, but I didn’t think anything of it. Then I heard noises that sounded like broken glass.
“When I got downstairs they had smashed the glass on the inside door and opened it. It was old, beautifully etched glass and I will not be able to replace it to the same level.”
Police say the suspect was a white male, around 5ft 10ins tall with dark brown hair. He was wearing a grey bomber jacket and blue jeans.
Meanwhile, at the same time another break-in was happening in nearby Boclair Road. Two men forced their way into a house and stole a laptop computer.
The first suspect is described at being 6ft tall with dark brown hair and wearing a black puffer jacket, a fluorescent scarf and dark trousers. The second man was also 6ft tall with dark brown hair and was wearing a beanie hat.
