Classified: Plans for Bishopbriggs hub remain secret ... for now

Bishopbriggs Library

PROPOSALS for a community hub in Bishopbriggs – similar to the library plan which sparked outrage in Kirkintilloch – are being kept under wraps.

An update report on progress to identify a site for the Briggs hub was discussed in private at a recent meeting of the full council.

But no details about the discussions were given to the Herald following the meeting.

A community hub is planned to open in Bishopbriggs town centre during 2014/15.

It’s part of a masterplan for the area, which includes the new Morrisons supermarket.

The council began work on its first hub in Kirkintilloch’s William Patrick Library last month.

However, the £500,000 plans have caused outrage amongst residents who say they have not been consulted about the proposals and claim the new hub will reduce the library’s ground-floor space.

A petition against the proposals has amassed over 1,600 signatures.
