Confusion over who’ll be allowed in to crunch East Dunbartonshire Council meeting on school mergers
COUNCIL chiefs have refused to confirm whether parents will be allowed to attend a crucial schools meeting.
Councillors will meet next Wednesday, March 27, to discuss primary school mergers.
Calls to switch the meeting to a larger venue were given short shrift by administration councillors, leaving only a small public gallery for onlookers.
Some school campaigners say they have been told that only two representatives from each school’s parent council will be allowed to attend, but a council spokesperson was unable to confirm this as this week’s Herald went to press.
The spokesperson was also unable to say how many people would be allowed into the council’s Southbank Marina HQ for the meeting.
At a previous meeting an ‘overspill room’ was made available for those unable to fit into the council chamber to listen to the debate.
Gordon Currie, the council’s head of education, said: “We understand the public interest in this meeting and are looking at the logistics of the meeting space to decide on a way forward.”
