Controversial Kirkintilloch Community Hub hailed a success

MORE than 31,000 people have visited the Kirkintilloch Community Hub in the new-look William Patrick Library since it opened a month ago.

There was a public outcry when the shock plans were sprung at the start of the summer – when it was announced the library would effectively close for nearly three months to allow the building to be gutted and converted into a hub.

However, East Dunbartonshire Council is emphasising just how successful the facility has been since opening on August 27.

In the first month a total of 31,270 customers have visited, accessing a range of services covering Council Tax, benefits, licensing, housing, general enquiries, library, leisure, arts and events.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “It is encouraging to hear that so many people have visited the community hub since it opened.

“Bringing together a new state-of-the-art library with customer services under one roof marks the beginning of an exciting and innovative new way of delivering services more efficiently to our residents.

“It will also improve residents’ experience of dealing with the council and affords us significant savings, which in today’s challenging economic climate, can only be a good thing.”
