Cops on school campus - what's your view?
POLICE officers could soon be stationed at schools across East Dunbartonshire.
A pilot 'campus cop' scheme will be trialled at the new Bishopbriggs Academy when the school opens in August.
Strathclyde Police already has officers in 34 secondary schools across Strathclyde.
Council chiefs claim feedback has found the scheme creates a positive relationship between pupils and police, improves relations between schools and local neighbours and strengthens links between pupils and the wider community.
The scheme was given the go-ahead in East Dunbartonshire at a recent full council meeting.
Bishopbriggs South councillor Michael O'Donnell stressed the pilot scheme does not indicate any problems at Bishopbriggs Academy.
He said: "I am very pleased we have been able to pull this pilot scheme together.
"This is in no way about the new school being insecure. This is all about testing a policy from the police which has proven very successful elsewhere.
"The benefits the pupils and local community get will be very great indeed."
Superintendent John Duff, sub-divisional officer based at Kirkintilloch police office, said: "I am absolutely delighted. We will now work with the school and with the local authority to ensure that we select the best officer to carry out this role."
