Cops swoop on gang brawlers in Kirkintilloch

THE LONG lens of the law has helped police to snare youths involved in a gang fight in Kirkintilloch.

Officers have arrested 13 teenagers after identifying them through CCTV footage.

The gang fight incident, involving boys aged 13 to 18, took place near the skatepark in Luggie Park on the evening of August 3.

The suspects were charged in front of their parents when a special gangs taskforce made the early-morning arrests.

They are due to appear in court within weeks.

Police will be visiting secondary schools in the area to warn pupils that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

Chief Inspector Brian McInulty, from Kirkintilloch Police Office, said: "These arrests came after a great deal of time and effort by local community policing officers working with the gangs task force who scrutinised CCTV and identified the youths involved.

"This will reassure all local residents in East Dunbartonshire that we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.

"The park areas, including the skatepark, are valuable leisure spots for local children and we are determined to ensure that they are not ruined by a minority who are intent on using it for acts of disorder.

"The message is clear – we will use all means at our disposal, working to identify and bring to justice anyone involved in criminal activity in East Dunbartonshire."
