Couple get hitched after 30 years apart ... thanks to Facebook

Reunited couple's wedding

Reunited couple's wedding

IT was a dream wedding for a pair of childhood sweethearts who were reunited after 30 years.

Tracy Wardrop and Douglas McAuley tied-the-knot after being brought back together through the social network site, Facebook.

The newly-weds were teenagers living in Muirhead when they began dating.

But when Douglas moved away from the area with his family to Blantyre, the young couple lost touch.

Tracy always lived in the Muirhead area, while Douglas went on to live in Montrose. However, the couple were reunited thanks to Facebook in 2010.

Douglas proposed on New Year’s Day this year under the tree where the couple shared their first kiss as teenagers.

Tracy and Douglas, who are members of the Rock Till You Drop dance group in Moodiesburn, chose a 40s/50s themed wedding, complete with Tracy wearing an Audrey Hepburn style dress, and the men in zoot suits and hats. Their dog Belle also played a part as a ring bearer.

The big day was on September 28 at the Crowwood Hotel, in Muirhead.

Tracy said: “The wedding was absolutely fabulous. It was so nice seeing people going out of their way to dress up in the style of that era.”
