Disabled spaces return at the rear of Kirkintilloch Hub ... thanks to eagle-eyed Herald reader

ACTION has been talen to return disabled spaces to the rear of Kirkintilloch’s library and Hub ... after concerns were raised in the Herald.

The council has announced that a full compliment of disabled parking is available again and has apologised to users.

Angry drivers hit out after the sudden appearance of a brick wall and fencing . . . over the top of disabled parking spaces at the rear of Kirkintilloch’s library.

The rectangular structure appeared without warning or consultation – to the fury and frustration of drivers with disabilities trying to use the library or new community hub.

To add insult to injury the spaces still sport a sign saying “Please leave these spaces free for disabled users” . . . despite being unusable.

Kirkintilloch resident Peter McDade demanded answers from the council.

And he has now got them.

Derek Cunningham, director of development and infrastructure at the council said: “The temporary reduction in disabled parking bays at the William Patrick Library and Kirkintilloch Community Hub should not have happened. A mistake has been made and for this I would unreservedly apologise for any disruption, upset or inconvenience this has caused.

“Our commitment as a council is to ensure there is no reduction in disabled parking provision at any time and we have taken steps with additional temporary disabled bays now in place. They will remain until such times as works are complete and we increase the total number of disabled bays on a permanent basis.”

“I would like to thank Mr McDade and the Kirkintilloch Herald for raising this matter with us and would again apologise.”
