WASTE warriors are hosting a free event in East Dunbartonshire to help local businesses understand new rules and how they will be affected.
Zero Waste Scotland is holding the meeting at Enterprise House, Kirkintilloch, on Friday, March 1.
Firms who attend will be given an overview of new regulations coming into force from January 2014.
Businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, will have to play their part as Scotland embarks on an ambitious crusade to maximise the value of waste materials and minimise environmental impact.
The new rules contribute to the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan – which aims to create green jobs and benefit the economy by around £175million.
Businesses will have to separate paper, cardboard, plastics, metals and glass for recycling. Some will also need to separate food waste for collection.
The briefing on March 1 at Enterprise House, Kirkintilloch, will run from 8am-10am, followed by an opportunity for questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Meanwhile, the war on waste is being waged locally by a team of volunteers – and you can do your bit.
Graham Branscombe, Zero Waste volunteer co-ordinator, is based at East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action in Kirkintilloch.
He said: “The Zero Waste programme is a valuable and effective scheme whose main focus is to help local communities take further steps in reducing their waste.
“Our aim is providing practical help and advice – seeking to empower everyone to shop smarter, waste less, save more and help create a greener cleaner Scotland – now and for the future.
“I am presently working with communities in East Dunbartonshire distributing information, giving presentations and demonstrations on Love Food Hate Waste, composting, recycling and Stop the Drop.
“Why not join our friendly team of volunteers and take action to contribute towards making Scotland one of the first zero-waste societies?”

* East Dunbartonshire Council is bringing in radical new plans which will see food waste collected weekly in East Dunbartonshire, with all other refuse uplifted every fortnight.
New bins will be delivered in the coming months and the new system will ‘go live’ on Monday, May 6.
Residents will have four bins and a food waste ‘caddy’ – a bucket with a hinged lid that locks so it is vermin proof.
A series of roadshows are taking place across East Dunbartonshire.
