Double Olympic joy as leading lights Sam and Andy line up to carry the flame

TWO inspirational people from Kirkintilloch and Moodiesburn have been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch when it comes to Scotland this summer.
Samantha McInnes (24) was nominated to carry the torch by her brother-in-law, in recognition of her work to raise awareness of ME.
Sam was diagnosed with the condition, which causes symptoms including exhaustion, muscle weakness and headaches, in 2010.
Since then she has suffered a number of relapses and only began walking without the aid of sticks three weeks ago, after the condition caused her to lose the use of her legs in February 2011.
To help raise awareness about the condition and to help others suffering from ME, Sam launched the ‘Sam and ME’ blog about her battle with the illness last year.
The blog regularly receives 1,500 visitors every month from countries including America, Australia, Europe and the UK.
Sam, from Moodiesburn, said: “I never thought I would be doing this, it’s crazy.
“I was a bit apprehensive when I found out, because I was walking on two sticks at the time and I thought how am I going to run with the torch?
“But now I’m really excited. It’s a good way to close the chapter I’ve had with my legs not working and start a new one.”
Sam will carry the Olympic torch through Dumbarton on June 9.

Meanwhile, Andrew Boyle (21), from Kirkintilloch, was nominated for the prestigious role by the parent of one of the youngsters he coaches at Lenzie Youth Club.
Now it’s been announced that the former St Ninian’s High and Holy Family Primary pupil will be one of 8,000 ‘inspirational people’ ferrying the torch 300 metres on its way to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The third year Glasgow University medical student has volunteered with the youth club two evenings a week - as well as at weekends - for around three years.
Andrew will run his 300 metres through Bearsden on Saturday, June 9.
