Driving a hard bargain? Roundabout way to raise cash on local roads...

GENEROUS firms are being urged to ‘Adopt a Roundabout’ in East Dunbartonshire.

East Dunbartonshire Council has relaunched its unusual scheme which allows businesses to advertise on roundabouts in exchange for paying for their maintenance for a set period of time.

The council has already approved plans to enhance nine roundabouts and gateway sites across East Dunbartonshire, including the Twechar seating area, Townhead roundabout, in Kirkintilloch, and Cadder and Auchinairn roundabouts in Bishopbriggs.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of the council’s development and infrastructure committee, said: “Last year, as part of our civic pride agenda, the council looked at a number of roundabouts and town and village gateway features across the area which could be improved.

“Already Kelvinbridge Roundabout on Balmore Road has been completed, a seating area in Twechar has been improved and work to Cadder roundabout is planned.

“These enhancements, and the publicity surrounding them, have attracted the interest of business people who see an investment opportunity.

“I hope we can work in partnership with local businesses, because if the ‘Adopt a Roundabout’ scheme takes off, and the council can attract external support, it means that local businesses benefit from increased profile, the local environment is improved and the council can use its limited budget on other projects.”

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Adopt A Roundabout scheme can contact the council’s neighbourhood services strategy office on 0141 578 8614.
