A young Lenzie woman who was jailed in Peru for helping to smuggle a £1.5million haul of cocaine into the country could serve the rest of her sentence in Scotland.
The Scottish Prison Service has received a request for Melissa Reid.
Ms Reid was convicted, along with Michaella McCollum, of drug smuggling last year.
They were jailed for six years and eight months, with their sentences reduced because of their guilty pleas.
Ms Reid’s dad has met with Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill.
A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: “I can confirm we have received an application from Peru for the repatriation of a Scottish prisoner.”
A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “We have been in touch with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding Melissa Reid and have asked to be kept informed of developments.”
